Welcome to Sutton Park School

Left float

Dear All,

Welcome back to the new school year.  It is always a time of excitement, trepidation, elation and questions.  We are already a number of days into the new term and the usual organisation of timetables and transport are quite all consuming.  I hope your son/daughter have experienced a pleasant start to the term, be they a returnee or a new starter.

As you will see from our results statement the departing 6th years have left quite a legacy for the new cohort to live up to.  Their commitment to the school in all its constituencies is evidenced in the level of offers received from universities all around the world as well as locally.  I would like to thank them for bringing a huge impetus to our beginning of year preparation.  Well done.

We have had some excitement over the summer too with the marriage of two of our staff Scott Beattie and Claire Kiernan as well as Miss O'Toole who also tied the knot.  Congratulations.

New staff have joined us too.  Mr Sean O Brien joins our Maths Department with a strong reputation at all levels of maths and we are delighted to have him.  Ms Siobhan Synnott joins us having spent time recently working at international schools abroad and she will also bolster our PE Department as well as bringing a wealth of extracurricular experience.  Ms Suzanne Farrelly who worked with us last year is joining us in a full time capacity and will be heading up the History Department.  Ms Louise Moore a past pupil joins the Language Department and will offer expertise in the area of French and German.  Ms Sinead Loftus joins our learning resource department as support to our students in this area.  Ms Kate Murphy joins as English as a Second Language Teacher in the whole school.

David Bane has joined us as Deputy Principal and comes with an excellent reputation.  His teaching experience comes from his time in Mount Temple where he taught Business and Economics.  He has been on secondment to the Department of Education for the implementation of the new Junior Cycle Framework.  Many of you will already have seen David around and will no doubt meet him in the coming weeks.

In the Junior and Intermediate School we welcome Ms Grainne Ni Chuinn (Grade 3) and Ms Nicole Gallagher (Grade 2) and wish them all the best for the new school year.

I would urge all students to get stuck into the comprehensive after school programme that is on offer.  The highest of our achievers have been the ones who have participated the most and again this was proven to be the case in our last set of results.

To our international students welcome and realise how we see you as intrinsic to all that is good about our school.  Of course the existing students have made great efforts in integrating all the new students both international and local.  It is something we pride ourselves on doing well.

To you the parents I would ask you to be as supportive as you have been and patient too with the new challenges inherent in all year beginnings.
